Today, many homes have an ionizer water filter. Why? Because recently there has been a developing interest in this particular type of product and much research investigating its many benefits.
A water filter ionizer works on the principle of electrolysis, essentially a chemical change. When H20 passes through, it essentially is split into two chemically different types of liquid. One is alkaline water, which is good for drinking because it is very much like what is found in the best natural sources. The other is acidic water, which is good for killing germs on surfaces such as wounds.
The alkaline liquid is actually reduced, meaning that the H20 clusters are smaller, making it easier for them to penetrate the body and hydrate it better. Another reason why alkaline water is good is because of pH. On a scale of 0-14, 7 is considered neutral, and if pH drops or rises slightly, this can mean death. An alkaline drinking supply helps the body maintain proper pH. Additionally, it helps the body fight free radicals. When free radicals are in the body, they leech electrons from cells, which causes problems. Ionized water gives the body more electrodes so that free radicals do not steal electrons from healthy cells.
Typically what is produced from a ionizer water filter is 70% alkaline liquid and 30% acidic liquid. The acidic substance that it produces is great for bathing wounds or washing dishes. However, it is not for drinking.
As beneficial as a water filter ionizer is, on its own, it cannot produce the safest, most beneficial drinking supply. These systems simply work a chemical process, so the word "filter" is a bit misleading. Additionally, the literature covering these products is often as hazy as the sterilization effects of an ionizer water filter.
Usually the information covering this type of product states that it will make more healthy, beneficial water, not necessarily safer, cleaner drinking substances. As a result, these types of treatment systems are usually sold in a multi-step unit which contains charcoal or other purifying agent which helps strain out or kill harmful substances and sediment.
There is no doubt that a water filter ionizer can be helpful as it produces a substance that is very much like the natural alkaline, oxidized water that originally existed on earth. Much of what we drink today is too acidic: bottled water is over 100 times more acidic than the substance that flows from the faucet, and a can of soda may be 10,000 times more acidic.
However, the liquid which comes from our taps contains more than just high acid levels: dangerous microorganism, chlorine, lead, antibiotics, and run-off from agriculture can all end up in our glasses. Clearly, you need to ensure that your drinking supply is free of contaminants and diseases and 100% safe before you can worry about how healthy and beneficial it is.
Thus, an ionizer water filter needs to be combined with other steps and processes to ensure that what you drink has been purified of all contaminants. Usually, these types of systems are sold along with a charcoal filter which is able to trap most unwanted substances. Combined with substances that are better able to strain out unwanted particles, an ionizer water filter is a helpful way to fight free radicals, hydrate yourself better, and have more beneficial water.
